Conflict in the Pool: A Field Experiment

چکیده
We conduct a field experiment on conflict in swimming pools. When all lanes are occupied, an actor joins the least crowded lane and asks one of swimmers to move another lane. The represents contested scarce resource. vary actor’s valuation (high low) for good through message they deliver. Also, we take advantage natural variation number proxy their valuation. Consistent with theoretical predictions, swimmer’s propensity engage increases scarcity (incentive effect) decreases (discouragement effect). complement results survey evidence.
